Iberian RegionsTerra AltaTerra Alta, the highland-village of Horta Sant Joan in the south of Catalonia, is responsible for inspiring Picasso to embark in his cubist period. Due to its steep hills, the area remained isolated and its wines were consumed only locally until the 1970's. The classic wines of the area; sweet mistelas and rancios, exemplify its well-preserved traditions, but the fashion for them has disappeared. Today, more and more wineries are converting to new wine making methods and grape varietals that will allow them to produce modern table wines in order to realize the potential of Terra Alta's well-drained, terraced vineyards. Frontier does not stock any wines from Terra Alta. |
