Bodegas Tobia

Oscar Tobia, the owner and wine maker of Bodegas Tobia, founded the bodega in 1994 after completing an agricultural engineering degree and attaining his masters in viticulture and oenology. Oscar has quickly distinguished himself as an impressive young force in the competitive Rioja market. Oscar belongs to the prestigious DeVinos tasting group in Rioja, made up of some of the top winemakers including Maria Jose Lopez de Heredia of Bodegas Lopez de Heredia, Manuel and Jorge Muga of Bodegas Muga, and Jesus Madrazo of Bodegas Contino. This affords Oscar the opportunity to discuss all levels of winemaking with some of the renown winemakers in Rioja whose wines represent the complete range of styles in Rioja.

Oscar has operated out of a small bodega in San Asencio since 1994 where he has been making wines that combine the elegance that has made Rioja famous with his own unique influence. He has recently begun construction on his new bodega which is about 200 meters from the present location by sacrificing about two hectares of flat and unproductive Malvasia and Garnacha vineyards. The new bodega will be a state-of-the-art-facility where Oscar Tobia plans to continue his winemaking philosophy of combining elegance and finesse.
