Bodegas y Vinedos Pardevalles

Vinedos y Bodega Pardevalles is located in the new Denomination of Origin of Tierras de Leon, created in September 2005. The bodega works exclusively with the Prieto Picudo grape varietal. Prieto Picudo is a unique grape varietal grown primarily in the Ribera del Cea area, in the province of Leon. The grape itself and its clusters are small in comparison to other varietals, thereby giving it an exceptionally high skin to must ratio. The name Prieto Picudo (literally: bunched and peaked) describes the grapes quite well when they are on the vine. Prieto Picudo grapes grow packed tightly together with bunches tapering sharply to a point at the bottom, and each grape is in the shape of an olive.

Traditionally, Prieto Picudo grew very close to the ground, where the high humidity and cool temperature during the night in the Leon region during the growing season led to excessive damage of the grapes from rot and mildew. Pardevalles recognized this problem early on and introduced trellises into their vineyard. Today, Pardevalles has the oldest Prieto Picudo trellised vines in the world.

The bodega owns two vineyards. One is named Carroleon and the other is named Gamonal.
